Restoring the Kill-Confirm Identity
Assassin has always been one of the most exciting classes to play.
Fast movement.
Stealth.
Precise burst damage.
But over time, one problem became clear in real PvP.
Assassins could reach a target and control them, but they often could not finish the kill.
Players reported the same experience repeatedly:
“I land the combo… and the target just heals through it.”
This update addresses that exact issue.
Our goal was simple:
Make Assassin lethal during its burst window without turning the class into an unstoppable lockdown machine.
The Core Problem
Assassin already has one of the strongest control toolkits in the game.
- Highest spec-stun count
- Highest Swap Position mobility
- Multiple stealth skills
- Strong single-target pressure
However, the class had one critical weakness.
Very few tools to stop healing or recovery.
Targets could:
- Spam potions during combo recovery
- Activate emergency skills
- Reset the fight instantly
So even perfectly executed Assassin combos often failed to secure the kill.
Our Design Philosophy
We did not want to simply increase Assassin damage.
Damage alone would only create random burst kills and unhealthy gameplay.
Instead, the focus was on kill confirmation mechanics.
This means:
- Preventing emergency healing
- Disabling recovery skills briefly
- Removing protective buffs
- Allowing the Assassin to stay attached to the target
But with short, controlled durations to preserve counterplay.
The result should feel like this:
- Assassin executes the combo correctly
- Target temporarily loses recovery options
- The fight is decided by execution, not potion spam
Skill Changes Explained
War Dance — Anti-Heal Chase Pressure
- Now applies Prohibit Using Potion
- Movement Speed increased from 8% → 18%
- Duration capped at 2.8 seconds
War Dance now acts as a follow-through tool.
After the Assassin engages, War Dance:
- prevents instant potion recovery
- increases movement speed
- allows the Assassin to stay close to the target
The duration is intentionally short.
This creates pressure without turning it into a permanent anti-heal effect.
Amplitude — Finisher Shutdown
- Now applies Prohibit Using Skill
- Now applies Remove Skill Effect
- Duration capped at 3.2 seconds
Amplitude is the highest-grade Assassin skill, so it is positioned as the combo finisher.
When it lands:
- enemy buffs are removed
- emergency skills cannot be used
This prevents last-second defensive abilities from reversing the fight.
The duration remains short to prevent wide AoE lockdown.
Red Storm — Combo Opener
- Now applies Prohibit Using Potion
- Now applies Remove Skill Effect
- Duration tuned to 1.8 – 2.5 seconds
Red Storm is now intended to be the start of the Assassin combo.
It removes:
- Immune buffs
- defensive effects
- speed boosts
It also stops immediate potion use.
This prepares the target for the rest of the Assassin burst chain.
Berserker — Team Fight Control
- Now applies Prohibit Using Skill
- Duration up to 3 seconds
Berserker is a team-fight setup skill.
It already amplifies damage for allies.
Adding a Skill Seal allows it to briefly deny skill usage in large fights without also blocking potions.
This ensures it remains strong but not oppressive.
Distortion — Primary Execute
- Now applies Prohibit Using Potion
- Movement Speed increased 8% → 18%
- Critical Strike Chance increased 15% → 28%
Distortion becomes the main kill-confirm tool.
The logic is straightforward:
- Target is stunned
- Potions are sealed
- Assassin gains speed to stay on the target
- Critical chance increases burst potential
This creates a lethal window when executed correctly.
Skulk — Survival Utility
- Dodge count increased 1 → 2
Skulk now gives Assassin a little more survivability in active combat.
This helps Assassin players reposition or survive counter-pressure after committing to a fight.
Cloaking — Stealth Control
- Duration reduced 140–300s → 60–100s
- Movement correctly allows walk/run during combat activation
Cloaking previously allowed extremely long stealth uptime.
This created situations where stealth had almost no downtime.
The new values keep stealth strong but introduce a meaningful window where enemies can punish the Assassin if it commits poorly.
At the same time, a long-standing movement issue has been fixed.
Additional Enhancements
- Silent Walk, Provocation, Purple Wind – Now enables walk/run movement when activated through combat skill use.
What This Means for Gameplay
Assassin should now feel more consistent and rewarding when executed correctly.
Before:
- Assassin combos were strong but often reset by potions.
After:
- Assassin combos create a short window where recovery tools are disabled.
However, this is not permanent lockdown.
All seals are:
- short duration
- situational
- tied to proper skill sequencing
Assassin remains a precision class, not a brute force class.
The Bigger Balance Picture
This update is part of the Phase 1, a large-scale review of all player classes to ensure each one has a clear role and viable gameplay path.
For Assassin specifically, the goal was to reinforce its intended identity:
Stealth Disabler / Duelist
- precise engagements
- high mobility
- lethal burst windows
- strong control over a single target
Not an AoE lockdown class.
Not a permanent stun machine.
Just a deadly assassin when played well.
What We Will Monitor
After deployment we will closely watch:
- Assassin kill speed in PvP
- Spirit and Scientist matchups
- Potion Seal frequency in real fights
- Team fight impact of Berserker
If adjustments are needed, they will be made carefully.
Balance is not a one-patch process.
It is an ongoing conversation with the community.
