Phase 2: Scientist Balance Update

Phase 2: Scientist Balance Update

Rebuilding the Scientist Identity

Scientist has always been one of the most misunderstood classes in Ran.

Wide-area skills.
Technical mechanics.
High skill ceiling.

But in real PvP, something felt missing.

Many Scientist players shared the same frustration:

“I hit multiple targets… but nothing really happens.”

This update directly addresses that problem.

Our goal was clear:
Turn Scientist into a true battlefield shutdown class without making it a brainless lockdown machine.

The Core Problem

Scientist already had strong foundations:

  • Wide-area coverage
  • Multi-target capabilities
  • High-range skills
  • Technical gameplay potential

But it lacked one critical element.

Real impact on enemy decision-making.

Enemies could still:

  • Use skills freely
  • Spam potions
  • Maintain buffs
  • Recover instantly

So even when Scientist hit multiple targets, the fight continued as if nothing happened.

Our Design Philosophy

We did not want to turn Scientist into a burst damage class.

We did not want to stack infinite stuns or permanent disables.

Instead, we focused on what Scientist should truly be:

Technical Shutdown / Area Denial Specialist

  • Disrupt enemy recovery
  • Control large areas
  • Strip buffs and protections
  • Force bad positioning

Scientist should not win instantly.

Scientist should win because the enemy team slowly loses control of the fight.

Skill Changes Explained

Hell Inspire — Reliable Punish Window
  • Improved Stun reliability
  • Added Potion Seal
  • Added Remove Skill Effect
  • Duration up to 2.5 seconds

This skill becomes a complete punish tool.

When it lands:

  • target is stunned
  • cannot use potions
  • loses buffs

This creates a short but powerful window where enemies cannot recover.

Hydro Fusion — Controlled Shutdown Field
  • Improved Stun reliability
  • Added Skill Seal
  • Added Movement Speed Slow
  • Duration up to 2.5 seconds

This skill locks enemies in place and prevents them from responding effectively.

However, it avoids stacking too many seals to keep counterplay possible.

Chemical Reaction — Strip and Seal
  • Added Skill Seal
  • Added Remove Skill Effect
  • Duration up to 2.0 seconds

This skill removes protection and immediately prevents reactivation.

A clean and efficient disruption tool.

Destruction — Area Control
  • Added Skill Seal
  • Added Push
  • Added Movement Speed Slow

This skill disrupts positioning and breaks enemy formations.

Scientist now actively controls space, not just damage.

White Hole — Anti-Recovery Zone
  • Added Potion Seal
  • Added Remove Skill Effect
  • Added Attack Speed Slow

This creates a zone where enemies cannot stabilize or fight effectively.

Death Shadow — Reposition and Punish
  • Added Pull
  • Added Amplify

This skill pulls enemies into danger and amplifies incoming damage.

Perfect for coordinated team play.

What This Means for Gameplay

Scientist should now feel impactful in large fights.

Before:

  • Wide hits with minimal impact

After:

  • Enemies lose control over skills, potions, and positioning

However, all effects remain:

  • short duration
  • situational
  • dependent on correct timing

Scientist becomes powerful through control and sequencing, not brute force.

The Bigger Balance Picture

This update continues the goal of giving every class a clear identity.

For Scientist, that identity is:

Area Denial / Technical Shutdown

  • controls space
  • disrupts systems
  • forces bad decisions
  • enables team plays

Not a burst class.
Not a permanent lockdown class.

Just a class that makes the battlefield harder to survive.
